The University of California Initiative for Human Rights (UCIHR) was founded in 2008 to integrate the work on human rights carried out at the University and to secure the University's position as a leader in human rights research and training. Through an international fellowship program, the Initiative will help foster a human rights orientation to graduate research conducted in a range of disciplines. By aggregating information about human rights research and activities throughout the system on a central website, it will showcase the sum of faculty and student endeavors and facilitate collaboration. It will also enrich the campus and community awareness of human rights issues by bringing prominent activists and scholars to give lectures and colloquia.
UCIHR was founded through a generous grant from the University of California Office of the President, and is led by a Steering Committee that contains representatives from the ten UC campuses and the UC Hastings College of the Law.
